Happy Third Blogiversary to db2commerce.com!

Wow, I have been blogging for a full three years now! I have only consistently blogged weekly for about 1.5 years. But what success blogging has brought me!

I put a lot of effort into my blog. One of my favorite things in the world actually turns out to be writing a good blog post – it can wash away a bad day at work and get me back in balance. For some reason, I just thoroughly enjoy writing. It is a good thing, too, because I’ve written over 200 posts totaling over 200,000 words, with another 9 posts and nearly 15,000 words published by guest bloggers (thanks, Mike!).

If you don’t follow me on twitter (you should – @ember_crooks), then you may not know – IBM has named me an IBM Champion in Information Management for 2013!! You can check out my developerWorks profile with “IBM Champion” pasted all over it here: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/profiles/html/profileView.do?userid=1200006WQA&lang=en. This distinction recognizes that I don’t just know my stuff, but that I am sharing it with the DB2 community, too. It is the pinnacle of my career so far.

And add to that, last month marks the 12-year mark for me working with DB2. When I started DB2 7 was the latest and greatest, and we had servers still on 5. I remember new features like loads that didn’t lock the entire tablespace, and online reorgs.

What really makes this blog successful are the readers. I get enough comments and tweets now that I feel like people are really reading. At the last conference at least half of the LUW folks I had met had already heard of me because of the blog. That felt pretty good.

Keep reading – I still have good things to share.
Keep commenting – I still read and treasure every comment.
Keep tweeting – there are still LUW people out there who don’t read, and you can share this with them.
